About the Author:
Arnaldur Indridason est né à Reykjavik en 1961. Diplômé en histoire, il est journaliste et critique de cinéma. Il est l''auteur de six romans noirs, dont plusieurs sont des best-sellers internationaux : La Cité des Jarres (2005, prix Cœur noir et prix Mystère de la critique), La Femme en vert (2006, Grand Prix des lectrices de Elle), La Voix (2007), L’Homme du lac (2008, Prix polar européen du Point) et Hiver arctique (2009).

Book Description Paperback. Condition: NEUF. C'est l'automne. Maria, une femme d'une cinquantaine d'années, est retrouvée pendue dans son chalet d'été sur les bords du lac du Thingvellir par Karen, sa meilleure amie. Après autopsie, la police conclut à un suicide. Quelques jours plus tard, Erlendur reçoit la visite de Karen qui lui affirme que ce n'était pas "le genre" de Maria de se suicider. Elle lui remet une cassette contenant l'enregistrement d'une séance chez un médium que Maria est allée consulter afin d'entrer en contact avec sa mère décédée deux ans plus tôt, qui lui avait promis de lui envoyer un signe de l'au-delà. Aussi dubitatif que réticent, Erlendur lui promet d'écouter l'enregistrement tout en lui répétant que ni l'enquête ni l'autopsie n'ont décelé le moindre élément suspect. L'audition de la cassette le convainc cependant de reprendre l'investigation à l'insu de tous. Il découvre que l'époux de Maria a eu un passé agité, qu'il a une liaison avec l'une de ses anciennes amours, qu'il est endetté et que Maria possédait une vraie fortune. Une intrigue parallèle nous raconte l'histoire d'un jeune couple disparu lors d'une promenade sur le lac. Et nous avons enfin des informations sur la nature des relations d'Erlendur avec son ex-épouse, Halldora.Le thème sous-jacent de ce roman est la question de la validité des histoires de fantômes dont les Islandais, souvent, n'excluent pas l'existence.
