Louis Roy explores his conviction that Christianity offers the deepest experience offered to humans by God. The reader will find a traditional Catholic theology expressed in a contemporary manner thanks to Bernard Lonergan's philosophy of human intentionality--knowing the self as an aware, active , loving and religious subject. This theology is incarnated in many ways: pastoral concern, dialogue with the psychologies of North American humanism and European existentialism, opennes to spirituality and religiosity, and a critical scrutiny of the values and meanings held by contemporary western society. Coherent Christianity begins by presenting a general picture of the faith as a personal and communal adventure--a place of solidarity. It moves on to explore the three basic attitudes that frame our relationship to God: faith, hope, and love. Roy highlights what he believes needs to be pastorally emphasized in a renewed interpretation of the faith. The final section of Coherent Christianity emphasizes the value to religion of a dialogue with philosophy, psychology and culture.
