Combat swimmer units have long deserved such a book. With a wealth of photograhs and documents many of them never published before Shadow Warriors features the historical record and current operational life of the Italian Decima Mas, the German Kampfschwimmers and the French Naval Commando Hubert, not to forget the first unit of all in this form of warfare, the Italian Incursori which gave birth to this highly specific combat skill.

A full color book also featuring line drawings and profiles of light submarine equipment used by these very discrete elite units.

Review:
Simply outstanding is Eric Michelett's WARRIORS FROM THE DEEP: THE EXTRAORDINARY HISTORY OF THE COMBAT SWIMMERS. Packed with full-page color photos and close-ups, the story of three combat swimmer units - the Italian Arditi Incursori, the German Kampfschwimmer, and the French combat swimmers who carried out operations from the 60s to modern times - receives in-depth detail and attention. Both methodology, individual and unit prowess and effectiveness, and surveys of main operations over the decades make for chapters which cover missions, military might, and courage. From the 'human torpedo' to underwater combats, combat swimmers play important roles during war which until now have rarely been covered in detail. WARRIORS FROM THE DEEP is a 'must' for any serious military collection: its scope and historical review is unparalleled. --By D. Donovan, Editor/Sr. Reviewer

Eric Micheletti's Warriors From The Deep: The Extraordinary History Of The Combat Swimmers profiles three combat swimmer units: the Italian Arditi Incursori, the descendants of the 'torpedo men', the German Kampfschwimmer, and the French combat swimmers who fought in Indonesia and Algeria. These swimmers have kept alive the skills needed to carry out underwater military operations, from espionage to attacks such as fitting explosive charges to the hulls of enemy ships: chapters take a visual approach to the history in packing color photos in multiples on every page, along with color illustrations of weaponry, discussions of tactics and achievements, and history. --By Midwest Book Review

Warriors from the Deep: The Extraordinary History of the World's Combat Swimmers" by Eric Micheletti is an epic pictorial history and survey of naval special warfare. This book details the men, weapons and equipment in vivid photography with extensive supporting text. Although this book is one of the best books on the subject, it still has flaws. There are some minor interpretation errors from French to English, as well as a few errors in technical details. However I feel it does not distract from the book as a whole. This is book covers practically every country that maintains these elite units from the U.S. Navy SEALs to the forerunner of all naval special warfare and in particular the birth of the tactical employment of underwater breathing apparatus, the Italian Incursori. Overall this book is must own for anyone with an interest in naval and special warfare. --By Troy A. Lettieri
