"Mother d'Youville, First Canadian Foundress: Marie-Marguerite Du Frost De Lajemmerais, Widow d'Youville" is a biography of Marie-Marguerite d'Youville, the founder of the Sisters of Charity of the Hôpital Général de Montréal, also known as the Grey Nuns. Born in 1701, d'Youville was the first Canadian-born saint, canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1990. The book details her early life, including the death of her father when she was seven and her subsequent education under the Ursuline order. It also covers her marriage to François d'Youville, who was often absent and involved in questionable business practices. In 1747, d'Youville was asked to become the director of the Charon Brothers Hospital in Montreal, which was falling into ruin2. She and her sisters rebuilt the hospital and cared for those in most desperate human misery. The book provides a detailed account of d'Youville's life and her significant contributions to Canadian history. Seller Inventory # 010608
