Pattern Cutting: The Architecture of Fashion does not intend to rewrite previous pattern cutting books which have successfully documented traditional methods of flat pattern cutting and draping. Instead, it aims to select a variety of pattern cutting scenarios experienced in studio fashion teaching and learning, and communicate techniques and processes with clear visual instruction, fashion imagery and text. It aims to underpin this practical subject within a historical and theoretical context. Most of all, it aims to inspire and combine pattern, design and aesthetics, and for readers to gain confidence to explore a subject that can be considered difficult and too methodical to be interesting.About the Author
Pat Parish's teaching career began at the Royal College of Art, London. Alongside her teaching, she also worked as a freelance pattern cutter for designers such as Betty Jackson and Anne Tyrrell, and created collections with Amanda Wakely, Edina Ronay, Bruce Oldfield and many others. She currently teaches at Croydon University College in the UK and is involved in the 'Fashioning an Ethical Industry' programme, set up to educate students, educators and individuals in ethical practice.
