Swiss artist MAYO―born 1963 in Zurich as Mayo Guy Robert Bucher―has over three decades created a wide-ranging body of work that has been exhibited internationally and garnered wide recognition. At the core of his practice is the relationship between image and space. Through painting, collage, photographic transformation, architectural interventions, and in curatorial projects, MAYO translates real places into multilayered pictorial spaces and opens new perspectives on perception and spatial experience.
MAYO: The Project spans his entire career, offering an engaging cross-section of the various genres of his art. About the Authors
Elisabeth Bronfen is professor emerita of English and American literature at the University of Zurich and Global Distinguished Professor at New York University.
Mayo Bucher, born 1963, is a Swiss artist based in Zurich and Ardez. He studied graphic design at Zurich’s School of Art and Craft (today Zurich University of the Arts ZHdK) and painting at Vienna’s University of Applied Arts.
