The philosophical question of a person�s identity has not been well resolved. Contrary to the term�s use in everyday life, and even within philosophy, identity is not a unified phenomenon. Rather, the identity of an individual has to be analysed by answering the following questions:

What determines the entity of an individual? What has to happen so that an individual from yesterday is �;identical� to the individual of today? What do we regard as identity in the sense of self-understanding and self-awareness? This book shows how in our everyday life the two �;identities� of human individuals - persistence and personality - intertwine.
