The focus of this text is on the insufficiencies of the lymphatic system and discusses lymphedema as well as related conditions and currently available intervention techniques. Chapters cover the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the lymphatic system, which should give the readers a clear understanding of how the lymphatic system works and why certain treatment approaches may be more effective than others in case of an insufficient lymphatic system. Additional chapters on diagnosis, evaluation, therapeutic interventions, and administrative issues, as well as an appendix covering patient education and sample forms for lymphedema treatment centers, are intended to make this text a comprehensive resource. Illustrations and tables are included to clarify the anatomic and functional basis of the lymphatic system and treatment interventions. To help the nonmedical reader, I have done my best to use simple terms in the figure legends when feasible. Most of these terms are also listed in the glossary at the end of this textbook. I hope that the first edition of the textbook for Comprehensive Lymphedema Management will prove to be a valuable tool for physicians, therapists, students, and patients. All royalties and proceeds generated by sales of this textbook are donated to charitable organizations and research projects.
