Synopsis
Written in German, Der SpiegelMacher, or the Mirror Maker, is set in Europe in the fifteenth century. Michael Melzer, a mirror maker of Mainz, travels to distant Constantinople, to make his fortune. By chance he gets there in the possession of an invention that promises immeasurable wealth: the secret of artificial characters. Thus he becomes the conflict between the Emperor of Byzantium and the Turkish Sultan, the Pope in Rome and the Doge of Venice. But the mirror-maker may be only the magic of the beautiful blind lute player Simonetta, which is at the service of a foreign power that wants to abuse the black art for their own purposes. About the Author Philipp Vandenberg, born 1941 in Breslau, landed with his first book a success: "The Curse of the Pharaohs" (1973) was a bestseller. There followed a number of exciting non-fiction and thrillers, which often have an archaeological background. Vanden Berg's books have been translated into 31 languages, including, in addition to all world languages into Turkish, Bulgarian, Macedonian and Romanian. The author divides his time between Baier Rain and torture tower of Germany's longest castle in Burghausen.
