Autorenporträt: Paula Fox (geboren am 22. April 1923 in New York City; gestorben am 1. März 2017 ebenda) war eine US-amerikanische Schriftstellerin, die in New York lebte. Lange Zeit war sie vergessen, heute sieht man sie als eine Klassikerin der Moderne. Ihre Eltern - der Vater war irisch-englischer Abstammung, ihre Mutter kam aus Kuba - ließen sie zunächst bei einem Pastor aufwachsen, mit sechs Jahren kam Paula Fox in ein Kinderheim nach Kalifornien. Zwei Jahre später zog sie zu der Familie ihrer Mutter nach Kuba, wo sie auf einer Zuckerrohrplantage lebte. Bis zu ihrem 12. Lebensjahr war Paula Fox bereits auf neun verschiedene Schulen gegangen. 1933 kehrte sie zusammen mit ihrer Großmutter nach New York zurück, wo sie bis zu ihrem Tod lebte.
