Painter Michael Zeno Diemer lived in turbulent times that were marked by political, social, and technological changes. He experienced the German Empire, World War I, the Weimar Republic, and the rise of National Socialism. A graduate from the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, he specialized in landscape painting, large battle panoramas, and maritime subjects. He also produced technology and science illustrations for the Deutsches Museum, Munich. Presenting numerous oil paintings, gouaches, watercolors, grisailles, posters, maps, magazine illustrations, and postcards, this catalog highlights Diemer’s great versatility. He captured the zeitgeist of his era and stands as an eminent chronicler of his time.
