Lilly Jahn wird in einem »Arbeitserziehungslager« inhaftiert, und es beginnt ein umfangreicher Briefwechsel, der den verzweifelten Kampf der Mutter und ihrer Kinder um den Zusammenhalt der Familie, um die Aufrechterhaltung von »Normalität« und gegen die Hoffnungslosigkeit veranschaulicht.
