This is a revealing new biography of the writer, Sylvia Plath, published in the 25th year following her death. The author draws on unpublished journals and letters only recently made available, as well as 200 interviews with people who knew her. The book is illustrated with previously unknown photographs of her childhood, marriage and literary friends. Als Plaths Hauptwerk gilt ihre Lyrik, insbesondere der nachgelassene Lyrikband Ariel, sowie ihr einziger Roman Die Glasglocke. Daneben schrieb Plath Kurzgeschichten und Kinderbücher. Sylvia Plaths Literatur wird zumeist im Kontext ihrer Lebensgeschichte gewertet. Ihre Gedichte gelten als Confessional Poetry (Bekenntnislyrik), und auch in ihrer Prosa verarbeitete sie autobiografische Erlebnisse wie einen Suizidversuch oder die Beziehung zu ihrem Ehemann Ted Hughes.
