Synopsis
This revised and updated version of a classic introduction to deterministic chaos views the field from a physicist's point of view. The book answers basic questions such as what is deterministic chaos, how is it generated, where does it occur, and what can one learn from a chaotic signal? It also explains advanced concepts such as bifurcations, intermittency, Liapunov exponents, functional renormalization groups, and strange attractors. The book requires no background beyond that possessed by a graduate student in physics.

About the Author
Heinz Georg Schuster is Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Kiel in Germany. In 1971 he attained his doctorate and in 1976 he was appointed Professor at the University of Frankfurt am Main in Germany. He has been a visiting professor at the Weizmann-Institute of Science in Israel and the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, USA. His current research interests are nonlinear dynamics of complex adaptive systems and neuronal networks.
