El principal objetivo de este trabajo es simular experimentalmente, por medio de holografía, un novedoso elemento óptico que consiste en dos axicones birrefringentes con el fin de explorar cambios en la profundidad focal de un sistema óptico. Básicamente, una rejilla difractiva de amplitud y fase continuas, que representa al axicón, es creada a partir de una rejilla binaria por medio de técnicas ópticas como la foto-reducción y el filtraje de frecuencias espaciales. La distribución de amplitud compleja producida por la rejilla continua es grabada holográficamente de tal manera que en la etapa de reconstrucción, dos haces con polarización mutuamente perpendicular son utilizados para sintetizar el axicón doble de material birrefringente. El estudio de la irradiancia axial muestra que es posible aumentar o disminuir la profundidad focal del sistema.

About the Author:
Se graduó de la Universidad de las Américas como Lic. en Física en el 2005 bajo la supervisión del Prof. Jorge Ojeda Castañeda. Después hizó su doctorado en Imperial College con el Prof. Peter Török para luego realizar un post-doctorado ahí mismo. Hoy, él es investigador en neurociencia en la Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne.
