The Northeastern Region of India is highly rich in water resources that can be exploited for the benefit of the nation in general and the region in particular.However, the present management system of water resources is not sustainable. If the current management system of water resource continues, India will have neither the cash to maintain and build new infrastructure, nor the water required for the economy and for the people, inspite of having turbulent water future. The region has gradually been experiencing with numbers of water related problems like recurrent floods, soil and bank erosion, and drainage congestion due to the abundance of water, particularly in the monsoon season, urban flood, etc. As such a holistic and coordinated approach to water resource management is an urgently need to change the economic and social structure of the region and to exploit the potential benefits of abundant water resources.under the circumstances, present study look into various aspects of water resource management in view of integrated water resources management in the NE region.
