Synopsis

Ricebean is an vine legume often grown as an intercrop or mixed crop with maize, sorghum and cowpea. It is also cultivated as a sole crop on a very limited area in the uplands. It is a potentially valuable but underutilised multipurpose rainfed crop for farmers in marginal hill areas. Grain yields are satisfactory even in marginal and adverse land, so it is important for the food and nutritional security of farmers and their families through widening the food basket of the poor in these areas. This study was carried out to assess and analyse role of ricebean in the farming system and food system among subsistence farming community of Dang district Nepal. Specifically, this study has explored different aspect of cultivation, use and market situation of ricebean in the district.
