Figuring Color looks at the work of four artists who use color and shape to represent a metaphorical body. For instance, Roy McMakin's sculpture of a chair is at once a body and an implication of an absent body, where two tables intertwined suggest bodies nestled together. Kathy Butterly's ceramic sculptures are miniature bodies, whose sensuality amplifies clay's potential for delightful form. In Felix Gonzalez-Torres's sculptures, piles of wrapped candy and plastic-bead curtains are experienced through touch, privileging the physical body while still evoking a metaphorical body. Sue Williams's riotously colorful paintings explore the body abstracted, represented entirely through color. Poems by Charles Bernstein, Mei-Mei Berssenbrugge, Jen Bervin, Lee Ann Brown, Miles Champion, Marcella Durand, Craig Dworkin, Tonya Foster, Alan Gilbert, Lisa Jarnot, Vincent Katz, Damon Krukowski and others respond to the book's sensuous theme.

Book Description Gebundene Ausgabe. Condition: Neu. Ausstellung: Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston 17.2.- 20.5.2012 Color is a daily experience, from the colors we wear, to the cars we drive, to the food we eat, to the flags we fly. We use colors to describe our emotions: we feel green with envy, red with anger, or on a sad day, blue. This publication examines the work of four artists who employ color and form to represent a metaphorical body: In Roy McMakin s wood sculpture a chair is at once a body and an implication of an absent body. Kathy Butterly s evocative use of glaze transforms her ceramic sculptures into miniature bodies. In Felix Gonzalez-Torres s sculptures, piles of wrapped candy and plastic-bead curtains are experienced through a literal touch, privileging a sensory experience. Sue Williams riotously colorful paintings explore an abstracted body represented entirely through color. The publication combines images by the four artists with poems by twenty-two contemporary poets who further explore color through rhythm, meter and rhyme. Exhibition schedule: Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, February 17 May 20, 2012. Seller Inventory # INF1000479173
