English summary: The Danube, just as the Rhine, as a superregional and natural lifeline fostered and shaped the history, art and culture of central Europe in specific ways. Above all this importance is valid from the headwaters of the rivers through southwestern German and Austria up to Hungary, where it forms a cultural-geographic unit with the dense production of art monuments of the highest rank in city and country.
