This book examines the recent stadium architecture of the world-renowned architecture firm von Gerkan, Marg and Partners. For nearly half a century von Gerkan, Marg and Partners has been designing and constructing buildings around the world homes, hotels, museums, concert halls, office buildings, hospitals, research and educational facilities, and stadiums. Fourteen arenas that have recently been completed or are near completion are the focus of this book that takes readers from the brand new football stadiums in South Africa to those in Brazil, Poland, and the Ukraine. Particular attention is paid to the South African stadiums designed for the FIFA World Soccer Cup, due to take place in the summer of 2010. Each project profile includes information about planning and design, and is illustrated with photographs, plans, sketches, models, and fold-out pages that allow the reader to understand the scale of each structure. About the Author:
Von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp) was founded by Meinhard von Gerkan together with his partner Volkwin Marg in 1965. Employing over 500 architects worldwide, gmp has been designing buildings and stadiums in Europe, Asia and South America for over 40 years and has established itself as a major force in the world of architecture. Gmp's projects include private houses, hotels, museums, theaters, concert and opera halls, office buildings, commercial and exhibition centers, sports facilities, hospitals, research and educational facilities and transportation buildings.
