Bei dieser Zielsetzung konnte unter Berückichtigung des Umstandes, daß beim Benutzer des Buches grundsatzhen Kenntnisse der fremden Sprache vorausgesetzt werden dürfen, auch auf theoretische Erläuterungen weitgehend, auf phonetische Bezeichnungen im vollkommen verzichtet werden. Wer außer der Hilfe beim Übersetzen medizinischer Texte auch sprachwissenschaftliche Belehrung sucht, sei aui ai entsprechenden größeren, damit natürlich auch kostspieligeren Spezialwerk verwiesen. Möglichst großzugig vertahren bin ich hingegen mit der Heranziehung des Sprachgutes der Wissensgebiete, die mit der Humanmedizin in mehr oder weniger enger Beziehung stehen. Ich hoffe, daß das Buch dadurch wie bisfttr nicht nur praktisch und wissenschaftlich tätigen Ärzten, sondern auch Zahnärzten, Psychologen, Pharmazeuten, Chemikern, Physikern, Dolmetschern, ärztlichen Hilfspersonen und auf dem Medizinalmarkt tätigen Kaufleuten und Technikern nützliche Dienste zu leisten imstande sein wird. Since the second edition of the dictionary was published, many new terms in medicine and its related sciences have emerged and have become an indispensable part ot the medical vocabulary. This has led to a considerable increase in the number of words included in the present edition, and the opportunity, has been taken to revise the text completely. Nevertheless the original arrangement of the first edition, for which Mr. M. Goertz was partly responsible , has been retained. I have tried to keep the book reliable and convient to use, and have omitted all unnecessary details in order to keep' price reasonably low. Since a basic knowledge of the foreign language be assumed on the part of the user, it has been possible to limit explanations and to completely omit phonetic instructions in th anyone wants further philological information than that require translation of medical texts, he may refer to the more comprehive therefore more expensive special reference books.".
