About the Author:
Wallace G. Walker a exercé la plus grande partie de son activité d’artiste indépendant à New York. Il est diplômé de la Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, et est l’inventeur d’IsoAxis. Il a travaillé avec les architectes I. M. Pei &Partners et enseigné le dessin à la Parsons School of Design ainsi qu’au New York Institute of Technology. Il a organisé de nombreux salons et expositions à travers tout le pays. Il est revenu dans sa ville natale de Shreveport, Louisiane, en 1989 et a poursuivi des activités artistiques jusqu’à sa mort en 2003.
Doris Schattschneider est professeur émérite de mathématiques au Moravian College, à Bethlehem, Pennsylvanie, où elle a enseigné pendant 34 ans. Le double intérêt qu’elle porte à la géométrie et à l’art l’a tout naturellement amenée à se pencher sur l’oeuvre de M. C. Escher. Elle a travaillé comme enseignante, conférencière, éditrice et écrivaine et a publié de nombreux ouvrages sur l’oeuvre d’Escher. Son étude, M. C. Escher : Visions of Symmetry (Abrams, 2004), qui dresse un tableau complet de l’oeuvre d’Escher dans le domaine de la symétrie, comporte les photographies en couleur de tous les 150 dessins symétriques d’Escher.
