Czech photographer Katharina Sieverding (born 1944) recently undertook the first comprehensive sorting of the picture archive she has been assembling for over 40 years. She edited not for the quality of the negatives, but rather for the fragmentary byproducts of the analogue enlargement process. This catalogue presents montages of chance details from over 1,800 photographs.

Sie war Meisterschülerin bei Joseph Beuys und reiste in den Jahren 1972 bis 1988 in die USA, die Volksrepublik China und die Sowjetunion. Seit 1992 hat sie eine Professur für Visual Culture Studies an der Universität derKünste in Berlin. Alla base di questa revisione, tuttavia, non c'erano i negativi ma le cosiddette strisce di prova (testcuts), che sono in realtà sottoprodotti frammentari del processo di ingrandimento analogico. Disposti in montaggi digitali, questi dettagli un tempo casuali di immagini provenienti da oltre 1.800 fotografie forniscono riferimenti storici che fanno rivivere una costruzione mnemonica individuale e astorica di persone, mostre ed eventi nel mondo dell'arte di Düsseldorf e nel mondo dal 1966.
