METHIONINE AND LYSINE SUPPLEMENTATION FOR MEAT TYPE POULTRY: METHIONINE AND LYSINE IN LOCALLY AVAILABLE FEED INGREDIENT BASED DIETS ON THE PERFORMANCE OF BROILER CHICKEN AND QUAIL - Softcover
Methionine and lysine are two limiting amino acids in plant protein sources. Soybean contain higher amount of lysine compared to other plant protein sources but deficient in methionine, therefore while formulating poultry diets there should be animal protein sources to balance amino acids. Fish meal is the good source of animal protein, some time it price is so high and some areas fish meal transportation also cost high due to far from marine source (landlocked country). In this research effort has been given to replace fish meal by supplementing methionine and lysine in broiler chicken and quail diets and found promising results. From this research crude protein level of broiler starter diets could be reduce up to 19 and 16 percent in finisher diets without compromising final body weight and weight gain. Similarly, Japanese Quails are fast growing birds, they can matured in 4 weeks of age and need higher level of crude protein in their diets, if methionine and lysine could be supplemented there will reduce crude protein level. This is a one research results there could be further rooms for improvements and incorporation of other amino acids for better growth and economics.

About the Author:
Netra Prasad Osti, working in Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC) in the field of animal nutrition as a senior scientist (S4 level). He was graduated (M.Sc. Animal Science) from Tribhuvan University Nepal. Currently he is the executive member of Asian Buffalo Association, member in World Poultry Science Association etc.
