Synopsis
English summary: Negation is a universal feature of human languages, due to its inherently logical nature, its multiform manifestation, and its role in the mapping from syntactic structure to semantic interpretation. The contributers complement the vast body of research literature that has been published on negation, by offering a set of cutting-edge studies on negation. All the contributions are related to recent questions or controversies bearing on the syntax and semantics of negative elements and the variation in their form, and follow the central assumption that a proper understanding of the multifaceted and varied expression of negation is central to our understanding of the grammar as a whole. With this in mind, we have deliberately attempted to include different approaches and a variety of empirical and analytic details.
German description: Ziel dieses Bandes ist es, die umfassende bestehende Forschungsliteratur zur Negation durch eine Reihe von aktuellen Studien zu ergänzen. Alle Beiträge beziehen sich auf Fragen oder Kontroversen, die sich mit der Syntax, Semantik und Variation negativer Elemente befassen, und gehen von der zentralen Annahme aus, dass ein grundlegendes Verständnis der vielfältigen Erscheinungsformen von Negation zentral f|r unser Grammatikverständnis ist. About the Author
Dr Silvio Cruschina is Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Romance Studies at the University of Vienna. Prof Dr Katharina Hartmann teaches Syntax at the University of Frankfurt. Prof Dr Eva-Maria Remberger teaches Romance Linguistics at the University of Vienna.
