Synopsis

Bandwidth availability in wireless communication systems remains a limiting factor. Protocol Specific Text Compression, concerned towards Optimization of Bandwidth usage, is a novel approach towards obtaining maximum compression. PSTC is an efficient, robust and scalable compression scheme. Protocols such as SIP, XML, HTTP etc. are ASCII text based signalling protocol. The text based nature results in long messages and will result in significant transmission delays because of the large message size and relatively low data rates across the radio interface. This makes signalling inefficient over bandwidth limited wireless channels. Protocol Specific Text Compression (PSTC) is a compression technique for the optimization of long ASCII text based messages and has therefore the potential to improve the throughput.
