Synopsis
Simone Demandt has proved sufficiently that she is a master in her field. And yet everything is different about the photographs in this series, reproduced here in this slender volume for the first time. The »studio« had to be set up extremely quickly and often also more than provisionally. In addition, it was not possible to rig up any lighting, things had to be improvised. Ultimately, the scale and weight of objects that Simone Demandt wanted to photograph were of unpredictable size and inconsistent weight. And last but not least, it also took some persuasion on the part of the photographer to worm her way into the evidence room where she was able to photograph the silent witnesses, mostly the murder weapons. One condition was that none of the objects could be paired with a crime, i.e. a story or circumstances. What the photographer has captured in this adventurous research is nothing short of astounding. Many objects immediately reveal the possible background to the crime, other pieces of evidence are of such nugatory import that nothing much springs to mind. And so that much vaunted slice of reality (which photography is capable of capturing as an artistic medium), the image of a detached yet specific moment in time, is manifestly divided here; history and function slip away from our grasp most wondrously in the narrow scope of this cardboard studio.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - Asservate des VerbrechensSimone Demandt ist eine Meisterin ihres Fachs, das hat sie hinlänglich bewiesen. Und doch ist bei den Fotografien dieser Serie, die erstmals in diesem schmalen Band abgebildet werden, alles anders. Das »Studio« musste extrem schnell und oft auch mehr als provisorisch aufgebaut werden. Zudem konnte keine Beleuchtung eingerichtet, oft konnte nur improvisiert werden. Die Objekte schließlich, die Simone Demandt zur Ablichtung bringen wollte, entsprachen nie einem vorhersehbaren Maß und hatten immer völlig unterschiedliche Gewichte. Und last but not least bedurfte es zudem einiger Überredungskunst seitens der Fotografin, bis sie in den Asservatenkammern die stummen Zeugen, zumeist die Tatwaffen, ablichten konnte. Eine Bedingung war jedoch, dass keines der Objekte mit einer Tat, also einer Geschichte, in Verbindung gebracht werden durfte. Was bei dieser abenteuerlichen Recherche durch die Fotografin festgehalten wurde, ist verblüffend. Viele Objekt verraten sofort den möglichen Tathintergrund, andere Asservate sind von solcher Banalität, dass einem nicht viel dazu einfallen will. Und so ist der hinlänglich beschworene Ausschnitt der Realität, den insbesondere die Fotografie als künstlerisches Medium festzuhalten in der Lage ist, das Bild eines losgelösten aber doch bestimmten Zeitabschnitts, hier auf sehr manifeste Weise zweigeteilt; Geschichte und Funktion entgleiten einem im engen Rahmen des Pappschachtelstudios auf wundersame Weise.Ausstellung:Museum am Markt / Badisches Landesmuseum, Karlsruhe22/2-19/10/2014Kunstmuseum Heidenheim, 23/1-3/4/2016.
