Synopsis
When TeX was originally developed, graphics capabilities were not a major concern. As a result TeX itself provides only basic graphics support, and while the introduction of LaTeX improved matters, something more was needed. PSTricks addresses this by providing a very wide range of graphics facilities - from simple lines and curves, to 3D images, trees, knots, and charts, etc., with support for transformations, overlays and more - to form a complete graphics environment.
This book is a comprehenseive reference guide to PSTricks. It contains hundreds of examples (64 pages in colour), with the source code available online.

Dabei gibt es in der äußeren Form, insbesondere der Grafiken, erhebliche Unterschiede. Eingescannte Grafiken sind beispielsweise immer noch von selbst erstellten zu unterscheiden. Das Buch führt in das Prinzip der Grafikerstellung unter dem professionellen und dennoch kostenlosen Textsatzsystem TeX ein. Dabei macht es sich die mächtige Programmiersprache PostScript zu eigen, um so hochwertige Grafiken jedweder Art erstellen zu können, die auf einfache Weise in das TeX-Dokument eingebunden werden können. Insbesondere mit Zunahme der Farbausgabe durch Tintenstrahl- und Laserdrucker oder das zunehmend bekanntere PDF-Format, ist das Makropaket PSTricks für Anwender noch interessanter geworden, denn Farben werden in jeder Weise unterstützt, was auch durch 64 farbige Buchseiten belegt wird.
