Auf Vorwort und Vorbemerkungen folgen eine Einführung in die altägyptische Gartenkunst und drei Beispiele für archäologisch nachgewiesene Gärten. Es handelt sich um den Residenzgarten in Tell el-Dab'a, Ostdelta, das Gehöft mit Garten eines Rindervorstehers des Aton-Tempels in Amarna und den Garten der Großen Anlage von Musawwarat es-Sufra, Sudan. Darauf folgt der eigentliche Katalogteil mit Objekten zu Dattelpalme, Dumpalme bzw. Argunpalme, Sykomore, Feige, Granatapfel, Kap-Weide, Wein, Papyrus, blauem, weißem und rotem Lotus, Mandragora / Alraune, Mimusops / Persea, Kornblume, Korbblütlern, Lilie, Ingwer, Lattich und Zwiebel. This catalogue of an exhibition in Hannover titled "Next to Eden: Ancient Egyptian gardens - paradises in the desert" contains 281 relevant catalogue numbers from the Museum stocks. It contains a foreword, preliminary remarks, an introduction to the Ancient Egyptian art of gardening, and three examples for archaeologically attested gardens. These are the residential garden at Tall ad-Dab'a, eastern Nile delta, the farmstead with a garden owned by the cattle headman of the temple of Aton at Amarna, and the garden of the Major Complex at Musawwarat es-Sufra, Sudan. This is followed by the catalogue section proper with objects related to date palm, doum palm, sycamore, fig, pomegranate, cape willow, vine, papyrus, blue, white and red lotus, mandrake, mimusops / persea, cornflower, composite plants, lily, ginger, lettuce, and onion.
