Synopsis
Capturing an artist who has received a number of prizes as head of an internationally famous pottery workshop, this work represents the talents of Young-Jae Lee. Lee’s accomplishments as a potter are covered in detail, revealing how it is rooted in Far Eastern tradition while reflecting modern Western influences. Exploring her characteristic language, this account shows how she developed it on the basis of the formal principles of the Bauhaus, making her bowls and vessels noteworthy for their perfection of execution and their memorable, discreetly colored glazes and painting. Delving into her large-scale, nature-themed mises-en-scène at the Sinclair-Haus, the works she incorporated from the ALTANA art collection are also featured. Large-format illustrations vividly display the resulting interactions some harmonious, some contrastive and full of tension. This bilingual edition includes English and German.
