This huge and unusual book-object was first conceived in 1987, and is now available in an affordable trade edition. Alaa has invited his personal friends and his photographers to a party-a party that only takes place in this book. The guests tell stories about life, love, children, and of course the world of fashion. They are painting a picture of the "Universe Alaa," a world far away from everyday pressures, the world of a sculptor who left Tunis for Parisian Haute Couture. With a remarkable cover by Julian Schnabel, Alaa opens up an aesthetic vision of unlimited possibilities.
