Mit den 10 x 10 x 10 cm großen, mit Messing beschlagenen Steinen erinnert er an die Opfer, indem er die Steine in den Bürgersteig vor den ehemaligen Wohnorten einlässt, wo sie vor ihrer Festnahme, Flucht oder Deportation gelebt haben. Mit Köln ist der Künstler besonders eng verknüpft, hier lebt und arbeitet er. Hier verlegte er die ersten STOLPERSTEINE. Mittlerweile findet man sie bundesweit: in 280 Orten, überdies in Österreich und Ungarn. Insgesamt sind es über 12.500, und es werden fast monatlich mehr. Ein Ende der Kunstaktion ist nicht in Sicht. Das NS-Dokumentationszentrum nimmt den 60.
