Indeed, Tress's largely staged black-and-white work alternates between the allegorical, erotic, humorous, and grotesque, but it is always powerful. Including previously unpublished images as well as selections from collections long out of print (Appalachia, Shadow, Theater of the Mind, and Dream Collector), this handsomely produced monograph documents the American photographer's career with examples that cover all periods, from his early work in the Fifties through recent male nudes.
