This book consists of ten essays focussing on reactions in different parts of Europe to the Spanish-American War of 1898. Largely, the concentration is on the work of journalists, publicists, politicians and other self-conscious framers of public opinion. An attempt is also made to discover how such people gained their information on the War, and then tried to place it in their existing perceptions of the United States.

«‘European Perceptions of the Spanish-American War of 1898‘, published by Peter Lang AG, European Academic Publishers, in Switzerland, is a fine example of the high quality of work now being done by Europeans in American studies.» (John Allen Gable, Theodore Roosevelt Association Journal)
«...the authors present not only very valuable insights into the complex nexus between public opinion, politics and foreign policy in Europe, they also offer a refreshing and well balanced view of global conditions during the war.»
