Hamburg artist Peter Piller is known for his original use of photography and drawing. This work is based on specially designed media for documentation, archiving and mapping. It often uses found documents, such as photos of community newspapers, historical postcards, military finds from the GDR, photos of claims sent to an insurance company or, in what is probably its most popular collection, aerial photographs of individual homes. In 2002 he acquired a collection of 12,000 photographs from aerial photography archives. They were produced in the 1970s and 1980s by a company to be sold at the front door to owners of the residential objects represented. He organized the most unfavorable aerial views according to his own criteria and summarized them in a great illustrated book of 2004: DE LA TERRE PLUS BELLE.
