The book presents stills from Smith/Stewart's 2000 film, Ahead. Originally shot on black and white 16mm film & transferred to DVD, it was filmed driving down a remote unlit country road at night. The artists repeatedly turn the car headlights on and off. In the film, Glasgow artists Smith/Stewart (Stephanie Smith b.1968 and Edward Stewart b.1961) explore notions of the void, fear and dislocation; using the car to suggest the themes of sex and death that run through their work. Photographs by Smith/Stewart (Stephanie Smith and Edward Stewart); essay by Ulrich Loock; preface by Francis McKee. 96 pages; 80 b&w photographs; 9.5 x 13.5 inches.
