The triptych ' The War ' (1929-1932) by Otto Dix from the holdings of the Galerie Neue Meister in Dresden is one of the key works of German realistic painting in the 20th century . Hardly any other artist has studied so intensively the First World War as Otto Dix. The band opens the four-part paintings in fascinating detail shots . The preparatory drawings and boxes provide an insight into the years of development process of the triptych . So far unpublished source material for combat of the artist as well as reflections on the processing of their experiences after the war, which illuminate the contemporary historical context.
