F�r Taubes Ge�st untersuchte Diehl die Gem�lde Nussbaums hinsichtlich ihrer peripheren Bildelemente und drang tief in ihre Erz�hlungen ein. Ihre Fotografien machen das Abwesende anwesend, verleihen dem Unsichtbaren eine tempor�re Sichtbarkeit. Johanna Diehl, geb. 1977 in Hamburg, lebt und arbeitet in Berlin. Sie studierte Fotografie und Bildende Kunst an der Hochschule f�r Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig bei Prof. Timm Rautert, Boris Mikhailov und als Meistersch�lerin bei Prof. Tina Bara sowie an der �cole nationale sup�rieure des beaux-arts de Paris bei Christian Boltanski und Jean-Marc Bustamante. Seit M�rz 2019 ist Diehl Professorin f�r Fotografie an der Fakult�t Gestaltung der Hochschule f�r angewandte Wissenschaften in W�rzburg. Raphael Sbrzesny, geb. 1985, studierte Freie Kunst, Bildhauerei, klassische Musik, experimentelles Musik- theater und Theorie in Stuttgart, M�nchen, Bern und Paris. Seit 2018 ist er Professor f�r Kreation und Interpretation mit den Schwerpunkten Sound, Performance und Konzept an der Hochschule f�r K�nste Bremen. Seine Arbeiten wurden zuletzt im Haus der Kunst, M�nchen, der Kunsthalle D�sseldorf und im Haus am Waldsee, Berlin gezeigt.--Johanna Diehl focuses on places bearing deposits of collective and individual consciousness. She is interested in the extent to which an idea, ideology, or memory takes shape and becomes visible in the world of things-in forms and configurations, and in the traces that are left behind. For the exhibition series Presence, on show in the Felix-Nussbaum-Haus Osnabr�ck, the artist travelled to Saint-Cyprien in southern France-where, in 1940, Nussbaum was interned in a camp as an 'enemy alien'. Diehl forges a link between this site and Banyuls-sur-Mer, Walter Benjamin's jumping-off point in his attempt to flee to Spain that same year. Both are places of imprisonment, escape, hope, and resistance. For Deaf Branches, Diehl studied the peripheral pictorial elements in Nussbaum's paintings, penetrating deep into their narratives. Her photographs make the absent present and give temporary visibility to what cannot be seen. Johanna Diehl, b. 1977 in Hamburg, lives and works in Berlin.
