Synopsis
Depuis plus de dix ans, les matériaux végétaux sont au cœur de la pratique artistique d'Olaf Holzapfel. Depuis 2009, Holzapfel développe un ensemble d'œuvres en collaboration avec les tisserands d'une famille Wichí du Gran Chaco, en Argentine. Ces pièces mettent en lumière le lien entre les hommes et le paysage qui les entoure et soulignent la relation entre le centre et la périphérie, l'urbain et le rural. Les œuvres et installations textiles réalisées à partir de la fibre de cactus Chaguar et présentées dans cet ouvrage en sont un exemple. Ces œuvres textiles ont été réalisées dans le cadre d'un processus de collaboration entre l'artiste et les tisseuses wichíes Teresa, Mirta, Dionisia, Noelia et Luisa Gutiérez. Dans leur beauté, les œuvres combinent l'esthétique contemporaine avec les connaissances des tisserands sur les couleurs et les propriétés de la forêt.
La publication rassemble des documents sur le travail de Holtzapfel, des textes d'Olaf Holzapfel, d'Andreas Elías et d'Inka Gressel, ainsi qu'un entretien avec les tisserands wichis.

About the Author
Le travail multifacette d'Olaf Holzapfel (né en 1969 à Görlitz, vit et travaille à Berlin), qui emploie une grande variété de matériaux, allant de la paille aux dessins générés numériquement, explore les interstices entre art et artisanat, en s'intéressant à la fois aux techniques traditionnelles ancestrales des peuples indigènes (tressage, tissage, lattis, etc.) et aux espaces virtuels et physiques, modifiés ou créés par l'occupation humaine, interrogeant ainsi la division entre nature et culture, tradition et modernité.
