Rudolf Walter Wanderone, Jr. also known as "Minnesota Fats" was born in New York City on January 19, 1913. He was an American professional pocket billiards player. He was perhaps the most publicly recognized pool player in the United States – not only as a player, but also as an entertainer. He was inducted in 1984 into the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame for his decades-long public promotion of pool. His first wife was Evaline. "He knew how to manage money," she said, insisting that while the late Willie Mosconi, the perennial professional champion, may have been correct in claiming to have won the vast majority of their games, "Fats always left with the money." At 5 feet 10 inches, Minnesota Fats weighed as much as 300 pounds. He died on January 15, 1996 at the age of almost 83.
