9784871877978: Winnie-the-Pooh in Sinhalese A Translation of A. A. Milne's "Winnie-the-Pooh" (Sinhalese Edition)
Winnie-the-Pooh is the most popular children's book in the world. This is the first translation of Winnie-the-Pooh into the language of Sri Lanka. We believe the reason Winnie-the-Pooh has not caught on in Sri Lanka is there are no bears in Sri Lanka. Winnie-the-Pooh is most popular in countries where there are a lot of bears, such as Russia. Sinhalese is a language spoken by 18 million people. Sinhalese is one of the official and national languages of Lanka. However, a million speakers have gone to Middle Eastern countries such as Dubai and Saudi Arabia as workers. This may have an impact. One of my daughters is a fluent speaker of Sinhalese because she learned it from our domestic servants while she was a child. If you want to hear Sinhalese spoken, go to the movies Elephant Walk starring Elizabeth Taylor or Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. There you can also see lots of Sri Lankan elephants, which are larger than Indian elephants with a head with bumps shaped differently than Indian elephants. It is believed that elephants came before humans did.

About the Author:
Alan Alexander Milne was born in London on January 18, 1882, the third and youngest son of a schoolmaster. In 1920, Christopher Robin Milne was born, an event that was to change the history of children's literature. In 1923, during a rainy holiday in Wales, Milne began work on a collection of verses for children. The result was When We Were Very Young, published in 1924. Demand for Milne's whimsical work was overwhelming, and in 1926, he duplicated his earlier success with the publication of Winnie-the-Pooh. Milne continued to be a prolific essayist, novelist, and poet until his death in 1956.
