The Peredvizhniki were an the artistic group formed in 1870 in opposition to the Imperial Academy of Art. The artists protested against art addressed to and supported by the elite, and decided to make their work available to a wide audience. To fulfill this goal they started an enterprise which organized their expositions in many cities of Russia. Many outstanding Russian artists were members of this organization. This album contains 140 of their best known paintings. The Group had forty eight exhibitions from 1871-1923. 140 color illustrations. Summary and captures are in English. Used book like new.
