Synopsis

Algo verdaderamente ciudadano.

Algo nuestro.

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

A must-read for discerning, proactive, and positive-thinking citizens.

This is a book full of rage and a love-hate relationship towards a mistreated and battered Mexico, one that must be salvaged. It is an account that sheds light on the tiredness and anger towards the kleptocracy found with those in power, with the undeserved privileges of the ones sitting comfortably at the top of the pyramid.

With her ever relentless precision and objectivity, Denise Dresser takes a thorough look into Mexico’s recent history, the disenchanted years. The lost Peñastroika (the Peña Nieto years), the rust of humility, the ever present power of veto, and a pact for impunity. Within its pages we’ll read about the stories that have disrupted a democratic transition like the "White House" scandal and the of Odebrecht corruption case. Raw and revealing, the author narrates how Mexico has become a country of graves and missing people. It refutes the "official story" given by authorities in regards to Ayotzinapa, Tanhuato, and Apatzingan, and analyses the cost of fighting a war against drug trafficking which has rendered no results.

Faced with this dim outlook, she points out the battles that are still to be won: for women, for human rights, for journalists, for freedom of speech and expression, for peace. Mexican Manifesto is a call to disobedience, to dissent and build anew, to "bully" those in positions of power into governing better. It is a call to fix what has been spoiled for so long.
