ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
In a city without a name, devastated by violence and hunger at the hands of a “high command” that at times resembles Orwell's Big Brother, a group of women decide to create a book club.
This literary adventure soon becomes a means to escape the daily anguish of a Caribbean dystopia. An accidental crime turns them into accomplices, and reading of a self-help book turns them into murderers. The unsettling question that implicitly runs through these pages is that every woman in our impunity and sexist society hides a latent desire for revenge; every woman has a pending crime within. The novel also examines the therapeutic value of literature, the multiple forms of desire, and the moral fraud of “self-help” books.
With a unique sensitivity to understand the female universe, their most intimate actions and darkest desires; and with the frantic pace of a thriller and investigative depth of an alert witness, Mujeres que matan / Women Who Kill is the confirmation that Venezuelan Alberto Barrera Tyszka as one of the greatest narrators in the Spanish language.
