Synopsis
Sustainable development, selective waste collection and environmental education are interconnected parameters. This book reports some examples of educational actions carried out in a small municipality, located in Rio Grande do Sul, in order to contemplate the Regional Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan (PRGIRS) in which the municipality belongs. The municipality has a duty to execute them for the general population. These actions were carried out with the objective of bringing the population information on municipal solid residues, thus offering support to initiate the implantation of selective waste collection in the municipality, where this practice was almost, non-existent. The educational actions developed in the City were: the elaboration of a municipal educational booklet, radio programs and elaboration of a schedule to attend the selective waste collection. The actions cited were developed and good acceptance and comprehending of the population were perceived.
