In this book an optimal load frequency controllers are proposed to solve load frequency control problem of multi-area power system in a deregulated environment. The design of controller is much more difficult due to rapidly varying contracted and uncontracted load demands in restructured environment. In this book both linear, nonlinear controllers as well as nonlinear observers are proposed to mitigate frequency oscillations. The drawbacks and limitations of linear controllers overcome with nonlinear sliding mode controller and sliding mode observer based controller. The performance of optimal linear controllers, optimal non linear observers are tested on multi-area thermal-thermal power system.
