Synopsis

Roman civilization became the last page in the history of ancient culture, having existed more than twelve centuries (VIII century BC - V century AD). Geographically, it originated on the Apennine Peninsula and was named Italy by the Greeks. Subsequently, Rome gathered in an immense empire of those countries that arose as a result of the collapse of the power of Alexander the Great, subjugating almost the entire Mediterranean. As a consequence of this became centuries of war with its neighbors, in which several generations of Roman citizens participated in a row. The formation of ancient Roman culture was most influenced by: the cultural traditions of the Etruscans (Etruscans - a tribe of non-European origin that inhabited the territory of modern Tuscany); achievements of ancient Greek civilization. From Etruscans Romans borrowed many religious ideas and customs, as well as the basics of construction techniques and skill of artistic metalworking. At Greeks Romans have inherited polis system of the state structure, more perfect methods of agriculture, and the Greek art was esteemed for the sample and aspired to follow its canons.
