This book elaborates in depth knowledge for an efficient detection, categorization, and estimation of various short-circuit power system faults such as LLLG, LLL, LLG, LL and LG faults based on advanced signal processing methods. An efficient and effective protection against these faults in a modern power system become a challenging task for all power system engineers and practitioners with present ever increasing renewable energy (such as solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy, biomass etc.) integration to the existing grid. It mainly proposes a methodology for computation of an appropriate fault index based on features extracted from voltage and current signals using Wigner distribution and Alienation coefficient. The algorithmic performance of the proposed methodology is successfully evaluated under various operating scenarios. It is also tested for discriminating these power system faults from various switching events such capacitor or inductor switching. This book offers rich elaborations, systematic content, a comprehensive simulation-based studies for postgraduate students, academicians, researchers, and practitioners in the domain of the grid connected.
