The design of intelligent control systems has become an area of intense research interest. The development of an effective methodology for the design of such control systems undoubtedly requires the synthesis of many concepts from artificial intelligence. A promising direction in the design of intelligent systems involves the use of Fuzzy logic control to discover the abilities of intelligent control systems in utilizing experience via rule-based knowledge. This book presents a methodology for the implementation of a rule-based fuzzy logic controller applied to a vector control induction motor. The designed Fuzzy Logic Controller’s performance is weighed against with that of a PI controller. For vector control of the induction motor, a reference speed has been used and the control architecture includes some rules. The errors are evaluated according to the rules in accordance to the defined member functions. The system has been simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK®. The results obtained by using a conventional PI controller and the designed Fuzzy Logic Controller has been studied and compared. The fuzzy logic control demonstrates good performance.
