Synopsis
This book is Hemingways first novel. American young man Barnes is injured in World War I and lost sexual performance. In marriage, his wife enjoys the pursuit of pleasure, while he could only become a heavy drinker. When they travel in Spain, his wife falls in love with the young 19-year-old matador. But they finally break up due to age difference. Barnes wife finally comes back to him, though both know very clearly that they can never be truly integrated.
